Quite a while back I saw pictures on a ratty forum of an ice hat hanging in a rat cage. I thought this was an excellent idea, so hung one in my cage, but the boys refused to use it in any way. I nevertheless kept hanging the ice hat in the cage every now and then.

Whenever I'm away for more than a day, my sister and/or my mother take care of the rats. This time it's my sister who is away, so it's my turn to look after her cat Rebel, who sorta is my boys' aunt.

A while back the Statue of the Dummy was removed by the Living Room Coucil, after which Cardboard Castle slowly deteriorated, until it was sadly ruined by a bunch of scandalous vandals. But now a new building has arisen on the Couch: the Rathouse. What kind of house is this? Well, it's not so much house... it's a home!

Running wheel blues

A while back I've bought my boys a running wheel (a blue Super Pet Giant Comfort Wheel, Ø 30 cm), in hopes that especially Pancho would use it to get just a little more exercise. The wheel has been in the cage for more than two months now, and they've run in it exactly null times.

Pancho has been using my computer without my permission again. And guess what? He now has a penpal! He says her name is Sugar, and that she's his web girlfriend. At first I was rather worried, because how well do you really know another rat through the internet?

Adieu Dylan

Last week Dylan's thusfar minor respiratory problems took a turn for the worse. By Saturday he was sicker than I've ever seen a rat, not wanting/not able to eat or drink at all. Naturally I rushed him to the vet, who examined him extensively, and gave him an injection which ought to make him feel better for a day or two.

Early this afternoon Chester was put to sleep. :'( He had grown so old and thin, he had a small sorta tumour on his side, he permanently had a sore eye, and the last week or so he suffered from anxiety attack a couple of times. In other words, it was his time.

A while ago a good friend and ratty expert suggested that I'd try nebuliser therapy on Dylan and perhaps also Lefty. This means giving them medication (in this case a mucolytic agent) in a sorta liquid mist which they breath in.

Annual Christmas shoot

Today we did our annual Christmas photo shoot. I know, it's not Christmas just yet, but I needed a fresh Christmas picture for a contest on my favourite ratty forum. Anyway, at least now I'm already done for this year. Ho ho ho.
