Yesterday I went down to Rattery Ratcity to "finally" collect Dino & Elvis. Actually Dino was old enough to move up here already a couple of weeks ago, but because he couldn't move up here alone he had to wait until Elvis was old and big enough.

Today Uisce & Ulixes have turned 2 whole years. A major milestone, for a rat, and they've reached it in both good health and spirit; they still climb the walls of the cage, see me do that when I'm 60. Happy birthday to you two, Uisce & Ulixes! :-D

New kids

Almost a month ago (June 24) Uisce's fiancée Xrisje gave birth to no less than 17(!) little rittens. So Uisce is a father now, and one might consider me a rat-granddaddy. Tonight I went to see Uisce's children, and they were absolutely adorable.

National Oh Rats' vacation

A while ago I announced a date between Kraken and his fiancée-to-be Isabella Swan. Kraken hasn't yet been on his date, but he will go soon. Meanwhile Uisce & Ulixes have been on a 12 day vacation, from which they will return tomorrow evening. The reason for this vacation: Uisce has had a date!

Over here (in The Netherlands) we have these sweets for small kids, packed in little "magic" boxes. My three year old nephew loves them. When he has eaten all the sweets, we usually give the empty box to the rats (or "mimis" as my nephew calls them). The rats will then play with the box for a bit before tearing it to pieces.

Kraken has a date

About a week ago I got a call from a friend who runs my favourite rattery, and guess what? Kraken has a date! Or you could say that duty calls... ;-) His date is Isabella Swan, a black-eyed seal point Siamese cuty. She's originally from the UK (from Hakuna Matata's), but she now lives down here in The Netherlands at Rattery Ratcity.

Today Kraken & Kilkenny are exactly a year old. To celebrate their birthday this morning I gave each of them (and their cage mates) a ratty leek muffin. And tonight when I came home they got Applaws Ocean Fish for dinner, so although there was no big party this time, I'm pretty sure they enjoyed their birthday nevertheless.

Kraken injured

Yesterday evening when I got home I found Kraken injured on the bottom of the cage. He seemed unable to use one of his hind legs, he just kinda dragged it around. He couldn't climb, he could hardly move around at all. So I prepared the hospital cage for him (and for Kilkenny, who would keep him company), where he spent the night.

Rats are known to gnaw everything you give them to pieces in no time at all. While this is true most of the time, my boys sometimes can be very considerate when I buy them new stuff. Take the first hammock I bought them, it lasted well over a year (!).

We have a new toy! Well, actually the boys have a new toy, although it was a belated birthday present for me from my grandmother (thanks, Labi!). It's a Marshall Pet Octo-Play, and as you can see they are very happy with it.
