The Day We Set Sail (To Go and Hunt the Whale)

Waves higher than the main mast
Blood stains all over the deck
The winds chasing us
The waves beating us
Lightning pointing at us
Thunder cursing us
The day we set sail to go and hunt the whale

Days longer than years
Sunrise, sunset, split-second
The winds laughed at us
The stars forgot us
The rains cried for us
The seabirds warned us
The day we set sail to go and hunt the whale

Frozen looks of greed
On the faces of lost heroes
The tide, it fought us
Shadows heaved at us
Yet fire burnt in us
While dark clouds hid us
The day we set sail to go and hunt the whale

Eyes staring at the main mast
The first mate crucified
Faith then left us
Time waited for us
The moon bled for us
A child born dead for us
The day we set sail to go and hunt the whale

We fired a thousand harpoons
We screamed a million cries
But the whale, pale as the moon
When I looked him in the eyes
I saw

The living god of the seas
The son of the mother Earth
In the dawning of the day
Predator became prey
Few men reached the shore
Barely alive, just to tell you this tale
Of the day we set sail to go and hunt the whale
