Quintis Requiem

This morning I had Quintis put to sleep. A couple of weeks ago I had taken him and Q to the vet because of their recurring respiratory problems. Last week Quintis seemed to have recovered somewhat, but this weekend he suddenly had real trouble breathing. So I took him to the emergency vet, and she heard fluid in his lungs.

This morning I had Dino put to sleep. He was in slightly better shape than his pal Elvis was, but last night I discovered a small lump on his side, so I decided it was time. So I let Dino finish his breakfast, and then I took him to the vet.

I was supposed to pick up Igor & Java tomorrow, but there's been a slight change of plans. They already left their birth ground last Sunday, when they moved to a friend not too far from my place. Last Tuesday I picked them up there, and since then they've been living in the spare cage in my living room.

This afternoon I had Elvis put to sleep. After seeing him slowly deteriorating the last couple of months, this morning I decided it was enough.

A few months ago I figured it was time to get more rats again. That is to say, I thought my elderly boys Dino & Elvis would be gone soon. If I'd make reservations for a couple of new boys now, then by the time the new kids would arrive Dino & Elvis would be long gone.

I know it's been a long, long time since I've posted anything here (except for the occasional picture), sorry about that! But in my defense: I have been rather busy moving, mostly (I've moved into an appartment this Summer). Anyhow... Yesterday Quintis & Q celebrated their 1st birthday.

On New Year's Eve Quintis & Q started their journey from the rattery where they were born to their final destination: me. First they moved up to a location nearer to me, together with their brother Quillian, where they stayed a couple of days, and enjoyed the company of their younger "cousins" from Ratcity's R2 nest.

Christmas photo shoot

This afternoon I wanted to do a Christmas photo shoot of Dino & Elvis. I thought it would be a nice idea to let them sort out Christmas cards on the couch, with a giant Christmas stocking as decoration in the background. In my head I could already hear them sing Christmas carols together.

It wasn't too long after Uisce died that I decided it was finally time to give in and Get More Rats. At that time Kraken was old but still going strong (well, strongish anyway), so if I would get two more, then I'd end up with five max. However, it took a little longer than I'd originally anticipated.
